The Sgt. Dalton Issue
Good evening everyone! I have tried to refrain from commenting on the other candidates for Sheriff until such time as I know who I will face on November 3rd. However, I have received so many emails, calls, and texts regarding the recent headlines involving Sheriff Prendergast's handling of Sgt. Dalton's situation I feel the need to comment.
This incident is a perfect example of one of the many issues facing the Citrus County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) due to the current Sheriff's management style. His failure to reach out to a fellow constitutional officer who is an expert in the particular field but instead seek advice elsewhere is an example of his poor relationship with other elected officials. His failure to accept responsibility for HIS error and pass blame to someone else is his common practice and taints agency confidence. His belligerent editorial to the Chronicle in which he places his personal interests above those of an employee and the agency is a perfect example of his failure in leadership.
As you can see the common theme here is the current Sheriff's failure to fulfill his duties to his people, the agency, and this community. This particular circumstance is just a small tidbit of the on-going issues within the CCSO leadership.
"Commitment to Others, not service to self" words the Sheriff should hear.
